No Competition, Just Collaboration 2008!

NCJC 2008 is a Music and Arts Festival that prides itself on presenting local and Canadian talent. The idea invites a wide range of individuals and organizations active within our Music and Arts community to collaborate and work together as a collective to create a greater impact than what we would be able to accomplish individually. The City of Edmonton has a thriving Music and Arts community and an event like this helps underscore the fact that it will continue to gain momentum and grow for years to come.

The festival is comprised of many different dimensions: including a flea market that showcases local independent businesses, artists, photographers, clothiers, labels, shops & more; an art gallery of local works; an afternoon of acoustic and electronic musical performances; and finally two evening concerts that present only a handful of some of Canada’s and Alberta’s heaviest and most influential up-and-coming bands.

The festival itself being deemed “No Competition, Just Collaboration!” speaks loudly for the inspiration and belief that put this event in motion. This is the second year of the festival’s existence, continuing and expanding on one of its main goals: to help solidify the area of 118th Avenue known as the “Avenue of Champions” as a growing and prospering Arts District. The festival utilizes facilities located on 118th Avenue. These facilities include Avenue Skatepark (9030 118th Avenue) and the Alberta Avenue Community Hall (9210 118th Avenue). Avenue Skatepark will host a charity art auction and two evening concerts, while Alberta Avenue Community Hall will host the flea market, art gallery and acoustic stage.

In short, NCJC is an attempt to create a forum for independent artists, shops, labels, bands & more to communicate and support each other. It is a collaboration aimed at bringing together disparate influences and talent from our thriving community to expose our underground for what it truly is… a vast collection of impressive art, music and the like!

Check out more info on this years installment of NCJC on the events page! Early bird tickets are currently available here at Avenue for only $8 for one day or $12 for both. There are only 100 early bird tickets for each night, so make sure you come down and scoop a couple up for yourself before they’re all gone!
